A great must-see documentary for all Bret Hart and wrestling fans alike. This follows Bret Hart behind the scenes of the WWE and Paul Jay and his camera crew stumble upon the unpredictable world of professional wrestling, uncovering the most controversial evening in the history of the business.
The footage is great, Bret comes across very well, however despite it being spontanious, sometimes the shots seem set up, and this leaves you questioning the validitity of the scenes. One springs to mind when Bret is finished on the phone to Vince, and the camera happens to be in the kitchen where his wife at the time, Julie, is sat with a coffee at the kitchen table. This is a VERY MINOR thing and should not detract from the quality of the film here.
As this is nothing to do with the WWE marketing, there are no extras, no matches, just the feature itself. On any other WWE DVD this would be a bad thing, but the sheer quality of the feature more than compensates. It's refreshing to see yet another look at the business that so few understand and even fewer will ever experience.
After reading Bret's book, and watching the WWE Bret Hart DVD, added to his recent WWE appearances, it would be rather easy for someone to point the finger and accuse him of being slightly hypocritical. I'm not that person, but even though he was my favourite superstar in the 90's, Bret can be accused of believing in his own hype a little too much and that comes across.
I have rated this as 5* because these things I have mentioned, rather than take away from the experience, only make it even more amazing and gripping to watch.
I remember I purchased this DVD a few months back, in my opinion it is the greatest wrestling documentary you could buy. I recommend you buy it, it really is epic stuff!
