Shawn Michaels is one of the most charismatic and talented athletes in the history of entertainment. For more than 20 years he has wowed crowds, earning accolades, championships and numerous monikers, including “The Icon,” “The Main Event,” and “Mr. WrestleMania.” Now, for the first time ever, Shawn Michaels sits down and in an intimate interview retraces his early days in Texas through his Rocker tag-team partnership in AWA and WWE through his multiple reigns as WWE Champion. Shawn Michaels: My Journey offers surprising insights and absolute candor as he relives the highs and lows of his historic career. Over 20 amazing matches from the 80s, 90s and 2000s —most available on DVD for the very first time—demonstrate why Shawn Michaels is truly “The Showstopper.”

?traordinaire DVD de HBK avec tous les meilleurs match de shawn michaels (sauf shawn micheals vs ric flair wm 24)tr?s ?vouvant retrassant tr?s bien la carri?re de mr.wrestlemania.
I veer between a 'four star' and a 'five star' for this disk. It's utterly brilliant, but I just can't give it that extra nudge as there's just something hopelessly 'wrong' about it's content. I'll explain what I mean in the moment; suffice it to say if we're going off matches and that's what you're here for, this is a five star with no exception.
You might think the better matches of Shawn's career are covered on his other box sets - fair point, but Shawn's 'other best' matches are covered here (No Marty Jannetty feud, though. :( ). His tag compromises with guys such as Playboy Buddy Rose and Doug Summers are okay - there are better bouts elsewhere - but there's no doubt the Brain Busters match is a bona fide classic. If anything the matches on disk 1 are pretty solid, pretty good - nothing outstandingly outstanding but solid nontheless. The problem really is, with the exception of perhaps Akeem, the Nasty Boys and 1-2-3 Kid, Shawn has had dozens of matches with all of these guys. Hey, I'm being picky. The only reason I can be so picky is 'cause I'll gush at the quality of all of these things otherwise.
Disk 2 follows the quality of 'I've seen him fight these guys before but these matches are just as good as the others'. Mankind's match shows that Mind Games was no fluke. I've always espoused the Casket Match with 'Taker is the best Casket Match of all time - shame about the consequences. And I've never seen the first HBK vs. Flair match on this Disk, so that was a treat. Bobby Heenan once said HBK's match with Kurt was the best he's ever seen contested in the squared circle, by anybody - hard to agree, but you can see the man's point.
Now I hate to say it - love HBK, love HHH, but I didn't see why the Boot Camp Match was particularly notable. The Fatal Four Way was - surprisingly - really good. I usually hate four-way conceits and the four guys in the ring have the chance to be pedestrian and boring, but this match really works and really well. Jericho & HBK always have great chemistry so that was a good'un. Leaving one match only - the Wrestlemania match with 'Taker. No spoilers, yes, we know who wins. It's not about that. I knew who won, watching it recently, and the sheer adrenaline - the utterly perfect combination of all of the elements coming together. Breathtaking, really, really so. Contender for best Wrestlemania match of all time? Sorry Savage / Steamboat, but I think you've been dethroned.
Which leads us to the rest of the disk and why four stars instead of five. Well, they're no extras but on this kind of video package there doesn't need to be. Still could have done with some 'filler' promos, though, like on the Savage boxset. How the documentary links - since HBK has already had one 'life of' disk - is a prolonged, y'know, interview with, y'know, Michael Cole. Shawn Michaels the human being is actually an inspiration for me as a person, so I hate to poke fun a little here but, y'know, anybody who has seen, y'know, the disk knows he, y'know, uses, y'know a LOT during this interview. Really uses y'know a lot. It's a shame 'cause it's refreshing seeing Shawn this raw - and the problem is, maybe due to nervousness (he SEEMS nervous!), he y'knows himself through the whole interview. And it's a shame. On the other hand, Cole is equally annoying for different reasons. He's trying to be 'meaningful' and 'interested'. I can see why he's chosen for this job. But to me? He comes across as creepy and fake. Maybe that's totally unfair - I'm sorry, Mr. Cole, because you're always a hard worker - but I didn't find this work here his best. The truth is, the questions Cole asks of HBK maybe aren't 'juicy' enough and sometimes HBK gives a very non-commital vague answer. It's just the nature of the piece.
When the interview section of the disk fails to grab you - and offers precious little new to the documentary we had on the previous HBK three-disk boxset - you've got to think, it's one half of the entire disk running time, and seriously hampers the quality. It's a bit of a shame.
On the other hand... you may be coming to this disk as an HBK virgin. Maybe you don't have any of his other disks and maybe this is your first HBK venture. Then let me encourage you; this is as good a slice as wrestling heaven as a man (or woman!) can attain. You'll thrill to the amazing dynamics of one of the world's best wrestlers. If you don't have his other disks, his story here will be compelling and it'll be interesting to see how you take a burning out fallen superstar and reenergise them into a living legend. Shawn finished in 1998 and his legacy then was of politicking, foolish young man who had flushed his future down the toilet and yet was still so sensational, he'd make anybody's top ten. His 'resurrection' and fairy-tale ending in 2010 is the stuff of legends and made sure that he finished his career in the right way, with the right people and the right respect. Don't come out of retirement now, HBK; what you've done is at the moment, perfect.
