COMMENTAIRES CLIENTS (notations - commentaire)
It?s a good DVD set, the documentary on the first disc is very informative, and there are well chosen matches on the other discs, especially the rare Ric Flair vs. Hogan match.
Of course I miss some Stars of the 90?s like the British Bulldog, Sycho Sid/ Vicious, Jeff Jarrett or Vader, who appears on two matches, but has no own chapter!?
But all in all I?m satisfied with this compilation.
great dvd here celebrating some of the biggest names of the 1990s and the second boom period of wrestling. these were primarily the guys I grew up watching so it's kind of a nostalgia trip for me personally. awesome to see people like Sting get recognition in this set seeing as he was a WCW guy and hasn't competed for wwe. some great appearances on here from staples such as taker, austin and rock. makes you remember the good old days!
This is a really great 90's package, but it's not perfect. As the DVD itself states some of the choices of whom is on here is debateable, but none more so than Lex Luger. Luger gets on here but Dustin Runnells doesn't? I just had to get that off my chest and now I can move on.
Second thing off my chest is that it's difficult to give any DVD that grants Sting his recognition - and also gives a backhanded compliment for him staying away from WWE - is really gutsy in a WWE world and really must be bought for that alone.
Well, just like it's preceding Greatest Stars of the 90's DVD, this one is pretty good. It's retrospectives of the selective wrestlers, however, gets a bit... repetitive. For Yokozuna and Lex, it's 'didn't scratch the surface', for Shawn Michaels and the Rock it's 'most charismatic' and so on. All of the interviewees (CM Punk, Mean Gene, Vince McMahon, Jericho, HHH, Shawn Michaels et al.) all have their own things to say, but the problem is they all say the same thing. It's good how they've weaved in people like Bret or Rikishi who aren't always on friendly terms with the company, so that's a massive plus, but otherwise these retrospective bits got too samey, too quickly. I know how good these guys are, WWE! Don't have to keep telling me. Because they've gone with style over substance, the documentary bit of the DVD is left a bit... wanting, despite it's exceptionally glossy production values.
The extras are a mixed bag too. Undertaker making a casket for Yokozuna is indeed a fun retro gem but surely there are other Undertaker moments more deserving? Same goes for Bret Hart reuniting the Hart Foundation in a quite strange little vignette. Austin and the Rock are served well with Austin's Eulogy being played, but again, otherwise it's a strange choice. However, I'm just glad they're here! We love extras!
And then the matches. Well, this is where I had to falter between 3/4 stars, because the matches are good. A good selection of classic PPV style and Raw / Superstars type matches. The matches are as good as they can be for this type of disk and a good selection for each wrestler. Most aren't available anywhere else which absolutely hikes the value of the disk up a great deal. But it depends whether you're interested in random unavailable matches with these particular guys or not.
Should you buy this over any other DVD? Well, it depends. The retrospective is average, the extras are quirky (but unavailable anywhere else!) and the matches are generally decent to excellent. I'd say, yes, buy this but it's not the best DVD retrospective out there... but anything must be worth the price of admission to see Triple H try to act like a snob and try to clear out all the 'riff-raff'. :)
