WWE Royal Rumble 2010, WWE's very first event of the year, which took place in Atlanta but how did it go:

1) ECW Championship
Christian (c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson w/ William Regal

This match was back and forth and both men delivered some good offence, in fairness there was not too much to complain about here, the match was not greatly memorable or a classic but it was a very solid start to the show and did its job well at getting the crowd warmed up and with a nice ending. 3/5

2) United States Championship
The Miz (c) vs. M.V.P

To say that this was as last minute as possible (made during a backstage segment minutes prior) this match was quick and aggressive and was a perfectly decent contest. It did not get boring and the right man won, mind you I wouldn't say that you should buy the event just to see this match. Still not bad. 3/5

3) WWE Championship

Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton

This was a weird title match as both superstars are heel wrestlers, although the crowd seemed solidly behind Randy. Again not bad both superstars showed their worth as title match competitors but Orton has had way better contests and this was a little bit non- standout. The ending was not awful but it was surprising how the contest did end and you'll either love it or hate it. So again a good match but little more, apart from an aftermath which suggests a great upcoming rivalry. 3/5

4) WWE Women%u2019s Championship
Michelle McCool (c) w/ Layla vs. Mickie James

I could not believe how much hype this match got; it even received a promotional package, the first women%u2019s match in years to do so I believe. Deservedly so as well, this has been a very intense little rivalry and it actually hit an emotional tone as well. Unfortunately this contest is little more than a one move revenge match. So as a match there%u2019s little to rate but the aftermath was very feel good, more of a segment than a match. 1/5 (3/5 segment)

5) WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Undertaker (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

The undertaker has been great the last couple of pay-per views and this was no exception, this was an exceptional contest. Rey Mysterio was A1 and this match was interesting and fast and furious, Undertaker's nose looked broken with a lot of blood shown (in fact it was the nastiest moment in WWE for a while). There were hard shots and interesting grapples, not to mention a great impactful ending. The only downside, and it is a big one, is that the match was way too short. Aside from that there were no problems this is very nearly a 5 star match; here%u2019s hoping there's a re-match. 4.5/5

6) The Royal Rumble match

This year%u2019s royal rumble had tonnes of memorable moments *SPOILER ALERT* including CM Punk preaching in between entrants, Beth Phoenix being the 2nd women to enter a rumble, Shawn Michaels mission to go to Wrestlemania and of course Edge's return and the winner really deserved to win. Yet after all these positives this year%u2019s royal rumble just did not flow right, firstly hardly anyone lasted very long even A grade stars like Triple H, Jericho lasted around 3 minutes!!! Also the ring never really held more than 5 people, it just all felt a bit rushed. Not to mention that it was confusing, on WWE.com they announced who would compete but not everyone they mentioned did (William Regal, Hurricane included), and on weekly shows these absent superstars had been saying they were in the match or commentators said so. Still they were probably replaced but some fans must have been disappointed. Also the Beth Phoenix moment was memorable but nowhere near as memorable as when Chyna accomplished this feat, WWE is pushing Beth to be the next Chyna but there will never be another women who accomplishes the same things as Chyna, Never. Yet this rumble was not the worst but it was certainly not the best, so it was entertaining and worth viewing but if you%u2019re expecting as good as last year you will be disappointed. 3/5

So The Royal Rumble 2010 was not a bad event just not a great one and there is bound to better PPV's this year, still this is worth buying and does have its moments, the standout being the superb Mysterio/Undertaker encounter. 3/5
