With the upcoming release of Hulk Hogans Unreleased Collectors Series DVD I thought it was time to discuss the man himself, the Immortal Hulk Hogan. I’ve read many words written about Hogan over the years, some good and some bad, some true and some false. I’m here to set the record straight.

Hulk Hogan is the quintessential superstar whose career has spanned 4 decades and is the man responsible, along with Vince McMahon, for bringing professional wrestling out of the smoke filled halls and into the arenas and stadiums, and the homes of millions worldwide. A man with the body of a Greek God, the charisma to charm the masses and wrestling skills that have never been surpassed and likely never will be.

That last statement may irk some people who will then harp on about the amount of moves Hogan used or the fact that he never once tried a quadruple twisting inverted moonsault from the top of the Empire State Building, but the simple fact is they’d be wrong!

If it were the Olympics then it would be about the moves but this is professional wrestling, or what is now more commonly known as sports entertainment. Wrestling is not just the physicality in the ring, it’s the response that the superstar elicits from the crowd and the ability to make people care. Hulk Hogan can get more people interested in a match with one facial expression than many others can with a whole arsenal of flashy moves. It’s not about what you do, or how many things you do, it’s about how you do it, and why you do it. Sports Entertainment is a business that relies on the superstars giving the audience a reason to keep coming back. Hulk Hogan has been the standard bearer of a true sports entertainment superstar for many years. The Rock and Steve Austin understood and Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker and John Cena have since been handed that torch and have held it aloft admirably. They all understand, just like Hogan, how wrestling works and what it takes it to be the best.
